Use cases can also bring together the needs of several OSDL initiatives in one document. For example, the OSDL Desktop Linux initiative focuses on desktop issues like the DCL initiative does servers. But a use case might include both to provide a complete picture of a need.

Alternatively, a use case might drive a solution that requires coordination between development or distro communities. A use case for Persistent Storage Device Naming was written to help identify any gaps present in current distro offerings.

Finally, test projects within OSDL SIGs, like NFS v4 testing and hotplug CPU testing, have produced use cases in an effort to describe the most likely used scenarios that need to be rigorously tested.

Use cases from OSDL are created and reviewed by all elements of the initiative ecosystem: OSDL members, SIG members, the development community, the corporate test community, even experienced individual contributors have participated in this effort. We track our use cases in a central location on http://developer.osdl.org/dev/usecases where we provide a suggested template and references to how to write and submit use cases. We welcome participation in this effort.
