Rickford Grant (pictured), author of 'Linux For Non-Geeks' has now written a book about Xandros: 'Linux Made Easy' - with a companion CD of the Xandros Open Circulation OS. Sub-titled "The Official Guide to Xandros 3 for Everyday Users," Grant's latest book, says its publisher No Starch Press - one of the few remaining independent computer book publishers - is for those "interested in trying Linux but too intimidated to go it alone."
Grant has a knack for introducing the uninitiated to Linux in clear, understandable language, and the book will "will have readers using Linux in no time," says Bill Pollock, founder of No Starch Press. "Regardless of experience level," Pollock continues, "readers will no longer have any reasons not to dump Windows in favor of Linux. It's the perfect opportunity to escape the beast from Redmond."
The book includes everything they need to get started - Xandros on CD - plus the added bonus of a SkypeOut coupon, Pollock adds.
Grant helps readers get comfortable and gain confidence using Linux by walking them through projects with real value, such as setting up the system for MP3 encoding or installing fonts. He deliberately concentrates on the subjects most newbies care about: installation; using the Internet; playing CDs; working with digital cameras and photos; playing games; downloading software; synching PDAs; printing; and making Internet phone calls.
"Linux Made Easy" is the first product of an agreement announced earlier this year between Xandros and No Starch Press, aimed at creating a series of official books on the Xandros line of Linux-based desktop and server products.

How many different markets are there for books like this? I guess the first is your mom or grandmother who does few tasks on a computer - basically uses the computer for the internet. And the second is computer users who are new to Linux or even just curious about Linux. Anyone know how big those 2 markets are combined. How many zillions?? |

Anyone who possesses Linux for non-Geeks knws that Grant's earlier book is the clear winner if you want to migrate from Windows to Linux. This one on Xandros will be worth a look, for certain. |
