The World Economic Forum, a leading international non-profit organization focused on entrepreneurship in the global public interest, announced today that Corventis, Inc. has been selected as a “Technology Pioneer 2010” for the company’s work in developing innovative wireless cardiovascular solutions.
The Technology Pioneer award recognizes the most innovative start-ups from around the globe that will have a critical impact on the future of business and society. To be selected as a Technology Pioneer, a company must be involved in the development of a proven, life-changing technological innovation, demonstrate visionary leadership and show all the signs of a long-standing and sustainable market leader.
“Corventis is proud to be amongst the select group of global companies recognized as a Technology Pioneer 2010,” said Ed Manicka, PhD, President and CEO of Corventis. “From our company’s inception, we have been focused on utilizing innovative technologies to address the need for better, more affordable healthcare for patients across the globe. As a newly named Technology Pioneer, our hope is that many more stakeholders in the healthcare arena will join us in our efforts to tackle these needs and to usher in a new era of proactive, preventative care.”
According to the World Economic Forum, the organization received more than 300 applications from around the world. The applications were then evaluated by 58 global technology experts, who singled out only 26 companies for the award. The Technology Pioneers 2010 are active in areas such as cloud computing and open source application management, social networking, financial inclusion through telecommunications, genome sequencing, responsive implants, wireless patient management solutions, waste remediation, fuel cell technology and the production of energy efficient building materials.
Corventis was founded on the principle that complex cardiovascular conditions could be more effectively detected for treatment using non-invasive, wireless sensor technology. The wireless, multi-sensor technology platform developed by Corventis was designed to launch a portfolio of solutions, like the AVIVOTM Mobile Patient Management System, with capabilities to provide focused insight into the cardiac health status of patients, such as those suffering from heart failure and cardiac arrhythmias. The platform combines the patient-friendly PiiXTM wearable sensor with advanced computational algorithms, global wireless capabilities and a comprehensive web-based infrastructure. Physiological trends including heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, fluid status, activity and posture are captured and automatically transmitted for personalized review by healthcare professionals. Physicians also receive actionable information when an irregularity in the patient’s cardiac rhythm occurs, helping to further diagnose potential health risks remotely from anywhere across the globe.
The 26 companies selected as Technology Pioneers 2010 will join the wider World Economic Forum community for the first time during the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2010 in Davos-Klosters in January. Participants will have the opportunity to meet and interact with a select group of technology leaders, enabling them to share ideas and visions for the 21st century.
