Amazon has conjured up a Cost Comparison Calculator Excel spreadsheet for users to measure the price of its cloud against traditional computing or somebody else's collocation site, which it's found is no easy matter.
It claims that doing a "truly accurate analysis will still require deep, thoughtful analysis of an enterprise's costs" - direct and indirect - but it hopes its tools and white papers will give users a "springboard."
It expects users to customize the spreadsheet.
The widgetry, which probably will find Amazon's so-called reserved and hibernated instances are the most economical, is housed in a new AWS Economics Center on its web site.
