Java Developer Magazine on Ulitzer
VMware is out with both Java and Python open source SDKs for its vCloud API meant to appeal to open source developers and ISVs.
VMware said key open source client libraries and tools such as Dasein, jclouds and libcloud are now available for the vCloud API.
Cloudera, which uses libcloud in its Hadoop distribution, and WebAppVM, which uses jclouds, have already used the SDKs to create solutions for vCloud Express.
The Cloudera Distribution for Hadoop lets users store, integrate and analyze data by leveraging vCloud Express and the vCloud API to dynamically provision resources, process jobs and de-provision resources. The WebAppVM solution lets users configure and scale a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) offering on vCloud Express so they can rapidly get on-board and monitor cloud-based applications.
VMware says other open source tools such as Ant and Apache Maven are also vCloud-enabled through the jclouds plug-in and reminds the community that it has made a number of open source contributions to the Cloud Tools project that powers the SpringSource Cloud Foundry service so Java developers can deploy, test and manage applications for VMware environments via vSphere and the vCloud API.
