Centrify's DirectControl 3 Integrates Popular Web and Open-Source Infrastructure Applications With Microsoft Active Directory

DirectControl's Web Single Sign-On Enables Organizations to Extend Active Directory Identity and Access Controls to Customers an

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., April 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Centrify Corporation, a leading provider of Microsoft Active Directory-based access control and identity management solutions, today announced Centrify(TM) DirectControl(TM) Suite 3, a comprehensive solution that uses Microsoft Active Directory to seamlessly integrate UNIX, Linux, Mac, J2EE and web platforms. DirectControl 3 provides support for web single sign-on and federated identity management, leveraging Microsoft's recently released Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS) to extend identity and access controls to customers and business partners. DirectControl 3 provides seamless integration with UNIX- and Linux-based open-source infrastructure applications such as Samba and OpenSSH. In addition, with deeper support for 64-bit systems and support for the Windows Server 2003 R2 UNIX schema, DirectControl 3 leads the industry in support for UNIX, Linux and Mac systems. By using DirectControl 3 to further leverage and extend their existing investment in Active Directory, organizations can improve IT efficiency, better comply with regulatory requirements, and move toward a more secure, connected infrastructure for their heterogeneous computing environment.

"At RadioFrame we wanted to integrate our Sun Solaris and Windows environments so that our users could focus on doing their work and not waste time each day having to remember and type in multiple usernames and passwords," said Christopher Smith, IS Manager, RadioFrame Networks. "We were impressed that within minutes we could get DirectControl up and running and working seamlessly with Samba, something that was not possible with alternatives we considered."

"Centrify's solution helps make it possible for IT organizations to cost-effectively address compliance requirements across their heterogeneous environment in a manner that leverages their existing IT investments in technology such as Microsoft Active Directory," said Scott Crawford, senior analyst with Enterprise Management Associates, a leading provider of enterprise-management analysis, consulting, and research. "With DirectControl 3, Centrify is applying that philosophy beyond controlling access to the underlying platform and is now rolling out support for applications that run on those platforms."

Key Features

With the release of DirectControl 3, Centrify delivers one of the first solutions that extends ADFS to web-based applications running on non-Microsoft web platforms. Microsoft ADFS enables distributed identification, authentication and authorization across organizational boundaries for applications running on the Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) platform. Additionally, the Centrify solution extends ADFS to web-based applications hosted on Apache and popular J2EE application servers, without having to deploy any additional federated identity software. The net result is that Centrify can deliver web single sign-on on both intranets for internal users and extranets for customers and business partners at a fraction of the cost of older solutions or point solutions.

Centrify is also delivering support for an even broader range of DirectControl-enabled open-source infrastructure applications such as Samba and OpenSSH. DirectControl 3 makes it possible to have these applications work "out of the box" with Active Directory and DirectControl-managed systems, greatly simplifying deployment and accelerating productivity. Additional 64-bit platform support is also provided for the HP-UX, IBM AIX, and Fedora Core platforms, expanding DirectControl 3 to over 50 flavors of UNIX, Linux and Mac -- more than any other Active Directory-based identity management solution. DirectControl 3 also adds support for new features in Windows Server 2003 R2, including support for the Active Directory schema for UNIX attributes (based on RFC 2307). DirectControl 3's support for RFC 2307 allows users to take advantage of DirectControl's ability to map multiple UNIX identities to a given Active Directory account, and to use straight-forward ADSI and LDAP searches to access the UNIX data that DirectControl stores in Active Directory -- without introducing any proprietary schema modifications.

"With DirectControl 3's unified architecture for system and application management, IT organizations with diverse and complex environments now have a single solution for creating a secure, connected infrastructure with Active Directory at its center," said Tom Kemp, CEO of Centrify. "We bring to this space the sort of technical innovation and focus that customers are looking for as they begin to manage more of their enterprise through Active Directory. For example, our innovative, next-generation Zone technology was designed from day 1 to deliver the type of granular access controls, administration, auditing and reporting features that enterprises need to address Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA and other regulatory and compliance requirements."
