Sunnyvale, CA, April 18, 2012 --(PR.com)-- LAYERZngn today announced the availability of CPlane OpenTransit, the newest member of the CPlane Framework family of infrastructure automation products. CPlane OpenTransit is available on a controlled-release basis to service providers and systems vendors.

According to Harry Quackenboss, LAYERZngn’s CEO, “With increased understanding of Software-Defined Networks (SDN) and OpenFlow, many are concluding that major advances in scalability, service life-cycle management and integration with existing protocols are needed. CPlane OpenTransit addresses these requirements by providing a highly-scalable integrated capability to support SDN and OpenFlow applications that works simultaneously with provisioning and orchestration of traditional network devices and services with service life-cycle support features such as scheduled activation and de-activation, logging and change management.”

Leveraging CPlane Framework’s core capabilities for discovery and provisioning, OpenTransit is designed to be compatible with other OpenFlow controllers. Since the CPlane Framework already supports a variety of southbound interfaces including NETCONF, the system can simultaneously communicate with devices using OpenFlow and the recently announced Open Networking Foundation OF-Config OpenFlow Configuration and Management Protocol.

According to James Liao, CEO of Pica8, Inc., a provider of open switch and router platforms for data center networks, “Out of the gate LAYERZngn’s OpenFlow Controller has some unique capabilities such as discovery and topology visualization. With its long list of other features it is going to generate a lot of interest.”

In addition to leveraging the CPlane Framework’s native capabilities such as topology discovery, visualization, persistence data store, logging, change management and checkpoint/rollback, the framework has been extended to incorporate:

· Support for a REST (Representational State Transfer) northbound interface compatible with existing OpenFlow Controller northbound APIs.

· Enhancements to the CPlane Workflow Engine to enable applications written for other OpenFlow Controllers, including open source implementations such as Floodlight, to be used with CPlane OpenTransit.

· A distributed asynchronous message processor and protocol adapter which
can be deployed across multiple physical machines to handle communications from a very large number of OpenFlow devices.

· A transaction director which supports multiple simultaneous hot-installable OpenFlow forwarding policies, with switch slicing, bandwidth management and network partitioning.

Based on customer priorities, CPlane plans to use its flexible interface capabilities to integrate with Amazon Web Services, OpenStack, Citrix CloudStack, Nimbula Director and other cloud management systems.
