IRVINE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 04/24/12 -- EADS North America Test and Services, a division of EADS North America, Inc., has been awarded an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for the Tabor Electronics PM8572A, 50 MHz Dual-Channel Pulse/Arbitrary Waveform Generator (AWG). EADS North America Test and Services is the exclusive distributor of the Tabor Electronics product line in the United States. The total potential value of the award is $933,000.
The Naval Air Warfare Center at Lakehurst, N.J., awarded the contract to replace the current Arbitrary Waveform Generator (AWG), which had been discontinued and was nearing the end of its support life. The U.S. Navy had been using the AWG as a benchtop instrument with the ability to load its test waveforms from a floppy disk. The replacement product needed to maintain the data-import flexibility of a floppy drive, and its pulse generation needed to meet the exacting timing specifications that the legacy instrument provided.
The Tabor Electronics PM8572A Dual-Channel Pulse/Arbitrary Waveform Generator can emulate many earlier-generation products and, in this case, was the closest fit available to meet the requirements due to its processor and waveform generator architecture. The processor, running Linux, has the connectivity capabilities required to replace the floppy drive; for this requirement, a DVD-ROM drive is used for waveform uploads. The PM8572A seamlessly combines a memory-backed true AWG, Direct Digital Synthesizer (DDS), and a traditional analog pulse generator on each of its output channels. Tests show that the generator's flexible architecture meets or exceeds the U.S. Navy requirements.
"We are pleased that the U.S. Navy has selected the Tabor Electronics PM8572A," said Jim Mulato, president of EADS North America Test and Services. "We strive to anticipate the current and future test and measurement challenges of our most valued customers. One of the ways we are successful is by offering high-quality AWGs that are designed to address legacy issues while providing state-of-the-art performance."
