Arista Networks will be demonstrating Software Defined Networks (SDN) with key partners, built on Arista EOS (Extensible Operating System), the world’s most advanced network operating system. The programmability inherent in EOS is being demonstrated in conjunction with strategic partners at Interop in Arista booth #1539.
Arista EOS is widely deployed in major cloud providers and is SDN ready, allowing network designers and administrators to deploy a data center architecture that addresses their real-time cloud computing, multi-tenant mobility, and virtual machine migration requirements. The extensibility and openness of Arista EOS provides the resilient foundation and flexibility necessary for SDN architectures, while avoiding proprietary vendor lock in.
The partner integration demonstrations at Interop 2012 and Interopnet in Las Vegas are: VMware auto provisioning with VMware SDN controller, OpenStack Nova integration with Nebula, and Big Switch Network’s OpenFlow controller.
“Networking’s Third Epoch is the era of network programmability, and in particular SDN, which enables the democratization of network application and features,” said Nick Lippis, industry analyst. “Arista's EOS platform was designed with this in mind and is an ideal confluence of open, extensible networking across virtual and physical clouds.”
Arista has articulated four pillars for SDCN:
1. Advanced Multipath Cloud Topology
2. Cloud Control with key operational features
3. Network-wide Virtualization
4. Single Point of Management with open APIS
With this announcement, Arista now offers SDN support for major network controller systems to support VMware, OpenStack and OpenFlow environments.
Ecosystem Partners
“We are reaching a tipping point in the migration from server virtualization to software defined data centers. The Arista and VMware partnership takes the network virtualization journey to the next level of Data Center wide deployment with Arista EOS based VXLAN and VMware’s vCloud networking controller,” said Allwyn Sequeira, CTO and vice president networking, VMware.
“Nebula is excited to bring Arista EOS support to OpenStack, the fastest growing open source cloud operating system,” said Chris C. Kemp, CEO of Nebula, Inc.
“We are pleased to be part of the Arista EOS ecosystem which is very much aligned with our open SDN architecture. We look forward to solving customer problems together,” says Guido Appenzeller, Big Switch Networks CEO.
The open architecture of Arista EOS provides for integration with an SDN Controller or natively into existing cloud Management system offered by Cloud operators.
