BEDFORD, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 05/10/12 -- EnterpriseDB, the leading worldwide provider of PostgreSQL and Oracle database compatibility products and services, today announced that its Postgres Plus Cloud Database is now available on HP Cloud Services (http://hpcloud.com). EnterpriseDB has configured its enterprise-class PostgreSQL Database-as-a-Service to be offered through HP Cloud Services, which provides a powerful new option for businesses tapping into cloud environments that are also seeking a dynamic and feature-rich database that is truly scalable.
Postgres Plus Cloud Database (PPCD) takes full advantage of HP Cloud Services by giving developers a tailor-made Postgres cloud database that is point-and-click simple to set up and automatically manages scaling, load balancing, failover and backup. PPCD is portable across public cloud, private cloud and bare metal deployments. With access to Postgres Plus Cloud Database through HP Cloud Services, enterprises can now slash their administrative costs and shorten their development cycles and time to market.
"HP Cloud Services represents an important new platform to the cloud for a broader range of business users," Ed Boyajian, President and CEO of EnterpriseDB, said. "Expanding end user access to our database will further our mission of providing a powerful yet low-cost alternative to traditional databases."
"Information technology planners need to include cloud computing in all new decisions, if only to embark upon an early project to develop that expertise," Donald Feinberg, Vice President and Distinguished Analyst of Gartner, said. "The database management system (DBMS) represents a significant opportunity as solutions have emerged with provisions for elasticity and scalability and the ability to integrate with other cloud services, all of which are what sets apart the true cloud DBMS from one that is simply a hosted service."
The Postgres Plus Cloud Database has captured significant traction in the market since becoming generally available in January. Offered on multiple cloud environments, the database represents an enterprise-class database-as-a-service for businesses seeking the cost-effectiveness and capabilities of Postgres and the ease and ubiquity of a cloud environment. EnterpriseDB engineers worked closely with HP during product development to ensure the solution was compatible with the new cloud environment and OpenStack. HP Cloud Compute currently leverages the OpenStack Nova compute platform and API.
