Yahoo and FIFA have announced that fans are visiting FIFAworldcup.com, the official Web site of the 2006 FIFA World CUP, in record numbers. FIFAworldcup.com is jointly hosted, produced and marketed by Yahoo and FIFA. Today’s statistics related to the site over the first seven days of the tournament include:
• More than 31 Million Video Streams
• 2006 marks the first year that video highlights of World Cup matches have been free on the Web, and fans have taken full advantage
• Over 1.2 Billion Page Views
In 2002, the site attracted just over two billion page views for the entire tournament, and this year FWC.com is halfway to that mark after only one week. This is the largest one-week total in the history of the site. The most page views were recorded on Monday, June 12 with 226 million page views, as per the company.
• Five Million Daily Unique Users
• An average of five million fans has visited FIFAworldcup.com each day during the tournament, including a high of 6.2 million visitors on Monday, June 12.
• Over 600,000 Fantasy Sign-Ups
• Fans have signed up in record numbers to play fantasy football on FIFAwordcup.com, which features Yahoo’s industry leading fantasy sports platform, the company informed.
“We have had a huge first week, and it’s exciting to see fans head to the Web in such numbers to follow this great event,” said Jorge Consuegra, general manager of Yahoo’s FIFA Partnership. “Fans are so hungry for information related to the World Cup, and we’re confident that the tools and features we’ve created on FIFAworldcup.com have made it fun and easy for them to follow the event and connect with other fans.”
“FIFA is delighted with those excellent traffic numbers said Charles-Henry Contamine, FIFA Head of New Media. The unparalleled coverage produced by 50 FIFA editors coming from 20 different countries, and the wealth and depth of content on FIFAworldcup.com have been recognised by fans around the world as the best place to follow the event online.”
Yahoo and FIFA plan to distribute weekly traffic results each Monday during the tournament, with a final traffic report to be released shortly after the final match in Berlin.
