Hortonworks, a leading commercial vendor promoting the innovation, development and support of Apache Hadoop, today announced that technical staff member from the office of the CTO Steve Loughran will present two sessions at ApacheCon Europe 2012, being held November 5-8, 2012 at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena in Sinsheim, Germany. Hortonworks is also sponsoring the community event.

During his “Inside Hadoop-Dev” session, Loughran will walk attendees through Apache Hadoop's development process, including the people behind the platform, where the code lives and how codes and processes are tested and released. Loughran will also discuss how attendees can get involved, from submitting bugs, patches and beta testing to larger undertakings. This talk will further discuss how development can be improved, particularly through the support of larger and exploratory projects.

Steve Loughran’s second talk, “High Availability of Hadoop,” will look at the ongoing work on Apache Hadoop 1.1 and 2.0 to improve service availability. He will discuss how the Hadoop community is working to eliminate failover and improve recovery of the master nodes, add resilience to clients and make stack layers resistant to transient dependency outages with the ultimate goal of making Hadoop clusters highly available.
