PrismTech™, a global leader in standards-based, performance-critical middleware, today announced that it will soon be adding Software Communications Architecture (SCA) 4.0 middleware support to its Spectra™ DTP4700 Software Defined Radio (SDR) development and test platform.
This innovation is a significant application and demonstration of PrismTech’s Spectra Common Data Bus (CDB) embedded middleware to facilitate the inter-operability and portability of application components deployed across different processors on a SDR platform (i.e. General Purpose Processors (GPPs), Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) and Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs)). Spectra CDB can support SCA-compliance for both SCA 2.2.2 and SCA 4.0 specifications.
Spectra DTP4700 is a complete SDR development and test environment that is ideally suited to the development of SDR applications (e.g. waveforms) designed to be deployed on platforms that meet the size, weight and power (SWaP) constraints required in next-generation wireless systems. Spectra DTP4700 is an OMAP3 and Linux-based platform that comes complete with a SCA 2.2.2-compliant Core Framework, SCA-compliant ORB middleware, SCA platform device software, advanced RF capability (covering either 30-1600MHz or 400-4000MHz), and two test applications (audio and digital FM waveforms). Spectra DTP4700 platforms are also fully supported by PrismTech’s market-leading Spectra CX application development tool, which provides developers with advanced component modeling, code generation and compliance validation capabilities.
The Spectra CDB SCA 4.0 middleware provides compliant implementations of the new ‘Full’, ‘Lightweight’ and ‘Ultra-lightweight’ CORBA® profiles.
“By adding SCA 4.0 middleware support to Spectra DTP4700, we further PrismTech’s strategy of supporting SCA compliance across the radio. This in turn facilitates more efficient component inter-operability and portability, resulting in more rapid development, quicker-to-market deployment and greater IP reuse. The bottom line is the faster development, testing and deployment of advanced SDRs with the capability to support the next generation of cognitive applications,” said Andrew Foster, Spectra Product Manager, PrismTech.
