Increasingly, enterprises are waking up to the potential of the cloud. Going beyond simple cost savings, these organizations are developing new business models for interacting with—and generating revenues through—customers and partners. Today, WSO2 announced that TIBCO co-founder John Mathon has joined as vice president of product marketing to help these enterprises realize their vision. Most recently John was vice president of engineering and principal architect at CA Technologies where he helped the company move to the cloud and software-as-a-service (SaaS). At WSO2, John will focus on delivering solutions based on WSO2’s award-winning cloud and enterprise middleware, which offer new cloud-enabled models for developing, delivering and sharing applications that drive business value.
“The challenge in moving to the cloud is that so much of today’s middleware is a combination of technologies that are 10, 20 or 30 years old. WSO2 provides an exciting alternative with software that is architected for the next generation,” said John Mathon, WSO2 vice president of product marketing. “The WSO2 team is now building on that platform to deliver solutions for creating and sharing APIs and applications and taking advantage of the programmable Web—all of which will be central to the IT strategies of enterprises as they move deeper into the cloud. I’m thrilled to be joining this very talented team in bringing these solutions to market.”
WSO2 also announced today that it has closed a $10 million funding round led by Toba Capital and joined by Intel Capital and another strategic investor. The investment comes in the wake of a 220% year over year increase in new customer bookings in 2012. For more information, see the press release dated February 4, 2013.
“We are seeing some of the world’s largest enterprises roll out strategic cloud-based initiatives to spur agility and innovation, and John will be an incredible resource in helping these organizations to succeed,” said Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana, WSO2 founder and CEO. “With nearly three decades pioneering enterprise middleware and cloud technologies and helping CIOs implement game-changing applications, John brings expertise that few in this industry can match. We are excited and honored to have him on the WSO2 team.”
Pioneer in Middleware and the Cloud
As a co-founder and CTO at TIBCO, John invented and created the information bus using a publish/subscribe model; created Marketsheet for Windows, CYBERTIB, and TIB in the Cloud; and managed large software development projects for some of the world’s largest financial firms. Following TIBCO, John was co-founder and CTO of Slam Dunk Networks (now Cloud Prime). He then served as founder, CTO and chairman of the board at Mathon Systems, Inc., delivering solutions for data loss prevention. At CA, John played a leading role in the company’s transition from a silo-oriented, on-premise enterprise software delivery company to a major SaaS provider and cloud leader.
