Lionic Corporation, a leading supplier of security software and signature database services for UTM (United Threat Management), today announced the availability of their Talos III Security SDK for Mindspeed's Comcerto 2000 Multi-Core ARM® Cortex®-A Communications Processor Family. Talos III is a comprehensive security software suite that provides a complete set of security modules including real-time antivirus scanning, Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), protection from malicious websites, and application-dependent QoS. By leveraging Comcerto 2000's embedded Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) technology, Enterprise-class UTM performance becomes an affordable reality for SMB, SoHo and Residential security gateways.
Lionic's innovative approach to security allows for very high DPI performance while minimizing the memory footprint required to address tens of millions of viruses and malware. The smaller footprint also allows for many years of growth where the number of new viruses and malware are increasing exponentially. Lionic's optimized Talos III SDK combined with Mindspeed's Comcerto 2000 reference design platform enables OEMs to quickly launch security appliances and DPI-enabled routers thus reducing their overall time-to-market and R&D investment. Furthermore, by combining Talos III with Lionic's real-time-updating signature database services, a total end-to-end security solution can be realized.
"As cyber threats are on the rise, security appliances have become increasingly important but have unfortunately remained unaffordable for small businesses and for homes," said Marco E. Bello, executive director of marketing and product management for the communications processors business unit at Mindspeed. "By combining Lionic's Talos III SDK with our Comcerto 2000 product, for the first time enterprise-class deep packet inspection technology becomes affordable in the home. While this technology has mostly been used for security to date, its entry in the residential space will, no doubt, lead to a plethora of new applications, such as application-based QoS or advanced parental control."
"We are happy to work with Mindspeed to create a total security solution for small businesses and homes," said Eric Lu, CEO at Lionic. "Mindspeed's Comcerto 2000 family of communications products is a powerful and exciting platform that could address multiple market segments."
For more information on the new Talos III SDK optimized for Mindspeed's Comcerto 2000, please visit Lionic's booth at RSA 2013 (Booth #257, Moscone South Center, San Francisco).
Lionic Talos III Software Development Kit (SDK)
The key features of Talos III are stream-based antivirus, intrusion prevention system(IPS), application control and management, protection from malicious websites, URL filtering and advertisement classification module. Talos III is fully compatible with and portable on Linux or the OpenWRT distribution.
When combining Talos III with an embedded hardware DPI off-load engine such as the one found in Mindspeed's Comcerto C2000 processor, enterprise-class security performance could be attained while keeping the main CPU available for running other applications.
Lionic's Talos III SDK for Mindspeed's Comcerto 2000 processor is ideally suited for many applications as follows:
- IPS and Firewall protection of industrial machines, e.g, POS system
- Antivirus for residential gateways to protect the home network
- Mobile and PC application control and QoS for SMB WiFi Access Points
- Malicious website detection for Kiosks and IADs
- Real-time and inline URL and keyword classification for WiFi hotspot access points
