Supermicro Launches Big Data Solutions with Intel® Distribution for Apache Hadoop Software

New Hadoop-optimized 1U, 2U Twin and FatTwin plus High-Capacity 4U 72+2 HDD Datacenter Configurations Consume up to 20% Less Power

SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Super Micro Computer, Inc. (NASDAQ: SMCI), a global leader in high-performance, high-efficiency server, storage technology and green computing is expanding its Hadoop Big Data initiatives with support for the new Intel® Distribution for ApacheTM Hadoop® Software (Intel Distribution). Supermicro's Hadoop-optimized server and storage systems have undergone rigorous testing and validation to support today's announcement at the Strata Conference in Santa Clara, California.

Supermicro is introducing its latest Hadoop-optimized systems at the Strata Conference, February 26-28, including the ultra-efficient, 4U FatTwin SuperServer F617H6-FTL+ systems which achieve up to 20% less power consumption compared to industry standard 1U Hadoop systems.  Similar to the Supermicro 1U standalone version that supports 12+2 drives (SKU# SYS-6017R-73HDP+), this 4U supports four nodes with twelve 3.5-inch hard drives plus two 2.5-inch drives each.  Featuring front-side I/O and redundant Platinum level (94%+) power supplies, this latest FatTwin system delivers unsurpassed system power efficiency and the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) available.

The SC847D supports well over 200TB of storage capacity and also features two 2.5-inch internal drive trays for convenient operating system (OS) installation on either solid-state drive (SSD) or hard disk drive (HDD) devices.  This incredible new storage server chassis doubles the hot-swap storage density and still maintains high serviceability with all of the hot-swap drives being easily accessible from the front or back side without having to move the system.  The SC847D comes standard with redundant Platinum level power supplies to provide the best reliability and power efficiency available.
