NEW YORK, March 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- XBRL US today announced that it will hold its annual conference, September 23-25, 2013 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada. The program will feature a video-taped keynote address by Congressman Darrell Issa from the U.S. House of Representatives who also serves as Chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform (http://oversight.house.gov). The Chairman has played a key role in introducing the Digital Accountability and Transparency (DATA) Act which, if passed, will require the use of structured data for all government expenditure reporting.
Craig Lewis, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chief Economist and Director of the Division of Risk, Strategy, and Financial Innovation which oversees the SEC implementation of XBRL (interactive data) will be providing a keynote address in-person at the conference.
The majority of the program will concentrate on intensive, practical training and best practice sessions for public company filers who are responsible for the company's XBRL-formatted financial statements. Attendees will participate in exercises, case study examples and discussion groups designed to maximize learning and retention in mapping, tagging and adhering to best quality standards in their XBRL process.
Panel sessions during the program will bring attendees up-to-date on recent Accounting Standard Updates (ASUs) that will affect their XBRL process, with instruction on how to implement them. Other sessions will cover legislative activities that will affect public companies, as well as informational sessions on how regulators, investors and other stakeholders are working with XBRL data. CPE credit will be available for panels and training sessions.
"Financial executives from public companies need more than just training on XBRL basics," said Arleen Thomas, Senior Vice President, Management Accounting & Global Markets, AICPA (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants), and Chair, XBRL US National Conference Advisory Committee, "This conference will feature experienced XBRL professionals giving practical hands-on instruction in best practices that will translate into the public company XBRL process. And our keynote speakers will provide insights into the next stage for XBRL and it's impact on public company accountants going forward."
The conference will also feature the second annual XBRL Data Forum on September 24, during a full-day program of technical presentations and discussions on how to use XBRL SEC data. Designed for developers and IT professionals at investment firms, XBRL Data Forum sessions will also be open to National Conference attendees. The XBRL Data Forum will feature analytical tools demonstrations, panels on XBRL data structure and on how to create XBRL databases. Finalists from the 2013 XBRL Challenge, an open source analytical tools contest, will be on hand to present their applications and discuss the development process.
Who should attend? Public company financial executives and accountants as well as service and tool providers who work with them should attend Current Developments in XBRL Financial Reporting. IT professionals and software developers should attend the XBRL Data Forum. Learn more and register for either event at http://conference.xbrl.us
