PGConf NYC Announces Record Crowd for the United States' Largest PostgreSQL Conference

Event on April 3-4, 2014 Spotlights Innovation, Education and Best Practices for PostgreSQL Users

NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 03/20/14 -- PGConf NYC, the United States' largest event for the open source relational database PostgreSQL, today announced more than 200 delegates are confirmed for PGConf NYC 2014, to be held April 3-4 at the New York Marriott Downtown.

PGConf NYC attracts database administrators, open source service companies and software application developers for general workshops, educational sessions and targeted session tracks. In recent years and this year in particular, the event has drawn an increasing number of enterprise executives and government agency leaders who have discovered the value and cost savings of open source database software.

"Each year, we have at least doubled participation in PGConf NYC, and we are excited to see that more individuals and organizations are embracing PostgreSQL for their mission-critical needs," said Jonathan S. Katz, PGConf NYC 2014 Co-chair and the CTO of VenueBook. "With sessions from leading PostgreSQL contributors and use cases from startups to Fortune 500 companies, this event is helping to bring together both the open source and the commercial worlds to create a stronger PostgreSQL community."

PGConf NYC is supported by the New York City PostgreSQL User Group. The group is a subsidiary of the United States PostgreSQL Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on providing educational resources for PostgreSQL users and supporting the adoption of PostgreSQL throughout the United States. PGConf NYC is made possible through financial support from its sponsors, including Platinum sponsor EnterpriseDB and Gold sponsors OmniTI, 2ndQuadrant and Heroku.

"PGConf NYC brings together PostgreSQL users to exchange knowledge, learn new techniques and expand the body of expertise at the community level. PostgreSQL is the world's largest independent open source development community and the community draws strength from events like PGConf NYC," said Marc Linster, senior vice president, products and services at EnterpriseDB.

Web Real-Time Communication APIs have quickly revolutionized what browsers are capable of. In addition to video and audio streams, we can now bi-directionally send arbitrary data over WebRTC's PeerConnection Data Channels. With the advent of Progressive Web Apps and new hardware APIs such as WebBluetooh and WebUSB, we can finally enable users to stitch together the Internet of Things directly from their browsers while communicating privately and securely in a decentralized way.

IoT is at the core or many Digital Transformation initiatives with the goal of re-inventing a company's business model. We all agree that collecting relevant IoT data will result in massive amounts of data needing to be stored. However, with the rapid development of IoT devices and ongoing business model transformation, we are not able to predict the volume and growth of IoT data. And with the lack of IoT history, traditional methods of IT and infrastructure planning based on the past do not app...

DevOps is being widely accepted (if not fully adopted) as essential in enterprise IT. But as Enterprise DevOps gains maturity, expands scope, and increases velocity, the need for data-driven decisions across teams becomes more acute. DevOps teams in any modern business must wrangle the ‘digital exhaust’ from the delivery toolchain, "pervasive" and "cognitive" computing, APIs and services, mobile devices and applications, the Internet of Things, and now even blockchain.
