Big Data Management in Hadoop 2.0 Made Simpler With General Availability of RedPoint Global Data Management for Hadoop

Native YARN Application Enables Companies to Drive Data Analytics More Accurately and Easily

WELLESLEY HILLS, MA--(Marketwired - May 27, 2014) - RedPoint Global Inc. (www.redpoint.net), a leading provider of data management and digital marketing software, today announced the general availability of RedPoint Data Management™ for Hadoop®, the first pure YARN data quality and data integration product on the market. With its easy-to-use, drag-and-drop interface, RedPoint enables traditional data analysts to manage Big Data without requiring coding in MapReduce, a skill in increasingly short supply.

RedPoint Global: Filling the Big Data Skills Gap

The shortage of skilled data workers is often cited as a key reason that Big Data has not yet achieved its fullest potential. A 2011 report by the McKinsey Global Institute noted that a shortage of talent will prevent organizations from taking advantage of Big Data. The report noted that by 2018, the United States could be short by 190,000 people with analytics skills and 1.5 million managers who know how to use Big Data to make effective decisions.

"The challenge today is that certain skillsets, such as MapReduce coding, are required to take advantage of Hadoop's benefit," said RedPoint CEO Dale Renner. "Even when these skills are available, MapReduce coding adds unnecessary time and complexity to any Big Data project. Companies need data quality and data integration solutions that can help their traditional data analysts drive accurate insights from their Big Data easily and cost-effectively. That's what RedPoint delivers."

Processing Data Natively in Hadoop

RedPoint Data Management for Hadoop was one of the first applications certified by Hortonworks as being able to process Big Data natively within a Hadoop 2.0 environment using the YARN architecture, making MapReduce unnecessary. Competing solutions are either dependent on MapReduce, or need to move data into and out of the Hadoop cluster for processing, defeating the inherent value of Hadoop's scalability and speed. With RedPoint, data is processed directly inside the cluster, saving time and valuable compute resources.

Making a Big Impact in a Short Time

Not long after the original announcement of the Hortonworks certification in October, RedPoint Global began successful engagements with early adopter customers who were interested in tapping the potential of Big Data but not incurring the steep learning curve, complexity and significant time and expense associated with MapReduce developments. In March, the company was notified it had been selected as one of the "100 Most Promising Big Data Companies" out of 2,000 vendors. The selection was based on the recommendations of a group of CEOs, CIOs, VCs, industry analysts and CIO Review editors.

RedPoint CTO and Co-founder George Corugedo also recently appeared as a keynote speaker at the Big Data Innovation Summit with his talk "Gain Traction for Your Big Data Initiatives: Harness the Power of Hadoop Quickly and Cost-Effectively."

Sophisticated Data Management for Unstructured Data

RedPoint Data Management for Hadoop enables users to map unstructured data stored in Hadoop, such as web activity, social media and devices data, to existing traditional data, like customer records, prospect lists, surveys, transactions and demographics. This allows companies to utilize all data assets across the enterprise to develop more powerful analytic insights.

The sophisticated data management features of the RedPoint offering include: identity resolution, master key management, data parsing, international address standardization, data quality, aggregations, transformations, and automations. While these capabilities are available in the traditional data world, they are largely missing from the world of Hadoop. A unique benefit of RedPoint Data Management is its ability to deliver these robust capabilities across both traditional and Hadoop data environments providing a single application and interface that spans both.

RedPoint Data Management for Hadoop installs easily on a Linux host with high-speed network connection to a Hadoop 2.0 cluster and a Windows PC/laptop (for client software). Upon set-up, the program code self-installs across the Hadoop cluster.

IoT is at the core or many Digital Transformation initiatives with the goal of re-inventing a company's business model. We all agree that collecting relevant IoT data will result in massive amounts of data needing to be stored. However, with the rapid development of IoT devices and ongoing business model transformation, we are not able to predict the volume and growth of IoT data. And with the lack of IoT history, traditional methods of IT and infrastructure planning based on the past do not app...
