RHEV is Gaining Ground

describe the imageRed Hat Enterprise Virtualization has provided data centers with open source solutions that allow them to virtualize, integrate, scale and manage workloads. RHEV not only offers traditional virtualization that the data center needs, but it also serves an on-ramp for data centers into OpenStack. By enabling enterprises across the board to be able to move workloads around on their existing infrastructure, all without losing performance or harming service levels, RHEV has made a big difference.

Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization and OpenStack

Red Hat, of course, is a primary contributor to the development of OpenStack. It’s no surprise to anyone to know that OpenStack is a regular topic discussed among users and developers at the Red Hat Summit that took place this year in San Francisco. Red Hat is committed to open source, and RHEV is at the forefront of bringing open source solutions to the enterprise in a reliable way.

Five years in, RHEV is still gaining ground

Five years after its initial release, Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization is still making headway in the market. The KVM-based virtualization solution is specifically designed to provide the enterprise-class performance that today’s organizations need. Cross-platform, performance built, enterprise ready and open source are the hallmarks of RHEV.

Helping the enterprise make transitions

A decade ago, open source technology such as that which powers RHEV was looked at with skepticism. It was too risky to use in an enterprise environment. Today, however, RHEV and other open source solutions power 9 out of 10 clouds.

RHEV’s goal at this point is to help their customers make hassle-free and worry-free transitions from their current environments to cloud environments. With RHEV it’s easy to start with just a little bit of virtualization here and there, eventually building on Open Stack and rethinking their entire computing, storage and networking layout.

New features and new directions

The latest release of RHEV includes a number of innovations, including:

  • A self-hosted engine that allows the RHEV manager to be deployed as a VM.
  • Backup and restore API, ready for third party vendors.
  • Support for new OpenStack technologies such as OpenStack Glance and OpenStack Neutron.

If your organization is looking at implementing a new virtualization solution that can take you from where you are to full Open Stack deployment, look no further than RHEV.
