BEAMruntime(TM) Released to Connected Product Manufacturers Under Open Source License

ADC Technologies Group's Software Subsidiary Is Releasing Its Embeddable BEAMruntime(TM) to Connected Product Manufacturers Under an Open Source License

IRVINE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 07/17/14 -- ControlBEAM™ Digital Automation, the software subsidiary of ADC Technologies Group, is releasing its embeddable BEAMruntime™, or BEAMRT™, to manufacturers of connected products and devices under an open source license. Connected products powered by BEAMRT™, called BEAMables™, are able to interoperate and support both machine-to-machine and human-to-machine communications using in-memory BEAMable™ Apps. BEAMRT can be easily embedded into any micro device or operating system.

The BEAMable™ App Platform transports BEAMable Apps from the ControlBEAM™ Cloud to connected products powered by BEAMRT. Once delivered, BEAMRT can process the in-memory app to dynamically render the user interface, manage data, and control a device without any cloud dependency, providing native app performance while minimizing network traffic.

Using the ControlBEAM™ Domain Manager (a BEAMable App), manufacturers can create a BEAMable App for their connected products without any coding, as simply as creating a calendar appointment on a smartphone. Once created in the ControlBEAM™ Cloud, the BEAMable App can be embedded within the firmware of a connected product, along with the BEAMRT.

The embedded BEAMable™ App can be transported on demand to any BEAMable™ smartphone or tablet to remotely control the connected product.

With the same ControlBEAM™ Domain Manager app, business and consumer users of these connected products (BEAMables™) can easily configure When/Then events among BEAMables™ connected in an office, warehouse, store, or home domain.

"The ControlBEAM™ Digital Automation Platform was developed ground-up to deliver apps connecting people to all things on-demand from any device," notes Doug Migliori, President of ControlBEAM, Inc. "The platform is an extremely compact, unified solution for the Internet of Everything that will be most effectively adopted by connected product manufacturers under an open source license."

For more information about the BEAMruntime release, including the BEAMprotocol™, source code, starter kits, and BEAMables™ Alliance Program, visit http://www.beamables.org.

With so much going on in this space you could be forgiven for thinking you were always working with yesterday’s technologies. So much change, so quickly. What do you do if you have to build a solution from the ground up that is expected to live in the field for at least 5-10 years? This is the challenge we faced when we looked to refresh our existing 10-year-old custom hardware stack to measure the fullness of trash cans and compactors.

Today we can collect lots and lots of performance data. We build beautiful dashboards and even have fancy query languages to access and transform the data. I wanted to gather all of my Internet of Things (IOT) blogs into a single blog (that I could later use with my University of San Francisco (USF) Big Data “MBA” course). However as I started to pull these blogs together, I realized that my IOT discussion lacked a vision; it lacked an end point towards which an organization could drive their IOT envisioning, proof of value, app dev, data engineering and data science efforts. And I think that the IOT end point is really quite simple…
