It's an exciting time in technology! The role of IT Ops is undergoing a seismic shift in meeting the ever increasing and pressurized demands from the business they serve. It seems only yesterday that client-server computing was being adopted by business users as a new-world alternative to mainframes. We now face another fundamental shift with new cloud computing solutions promising the world to business. Hybrid computing isnow the de-facto standard within enterprises  as IT is asked to accelerate the delivery of agile, responsive computing solutions.

I believe that business automation is key to helping enterprises maximize this opportunity.

Forrester defines automation as "the ability to systematically define, build, execute and manage workflows that automate business critical processes across business, application and infrastructure layers whether on-premise, in the cloud or the hybrid in between".  Gartner has highlighted the problem of "Islands of automation" that need to be replaced with an overarching architecture.

This is why I'm excited to be joining Automic. With our ONE Automation platform, over 2,500 enterprises are already reaping the benefits of automation and driving enhanced business value. Automic, as the name suggests, is focused on driving automation across business and IT to deliver complex service offerings faster and for less cost --while staying in control.  The end result is greater agility, enhanced business value and higher margins. In such enterprises heterogeneity is standard - no matter what dimension you deal with (application provider; operating system, network, storage, data,cloud IaaS, PaaS or SaaS). Indeed, here are just a few examples of the power of automation:

  • Automic automates business processes. Today many enterprises are using Automic to slash the time taken to process end-of-quarter financial processing, on-board new customers, fulfill service desk requirements or respond to spikes in demand within seasonal selling cycles.
  • Automic automates application deployment. Today major financial institutions are using Automic to automate agile deployment of large numbers of mission-critical applications.  They require zero downtime and results in a fraction of previousapproaches -- whether run on a private cloud, Amazon EC2, Azure or elsewhere.
  • Automic automates traditional enterprise IT. Today telco companies are using Automic to automate business process across home-grown and 3rd party retail data, and service (cell) management systems. The end result is massive time savings, and redeployment of large people-resources to other critical programs.
  • Automic automates Big Data. Today Internet companies are using Automic for dependency mapping between ETL data transfers and Hadoop jobs in on-premise and cloud environments. Using Automic, Hadoop jobs are automatically kicked-off through any Open Source platforms to dynamically spawn Hadoop clusters, process complex Big Data requests, deliver results and then exit.  The end result is faster time-to-value.
  • Automic automates the private cloud. Today enterprises can choose where to deploy applications and Automic takes care of everything else -- hiding the complexities of the underlying infrastructure to deploy, configure and test.
  • Automic automates the public cloud. Today, enterprises are using Automic to automate processes across different SaaS applications.  For example, automatically fulfilling ServiceNow tickets, or automating Workday processes that require business process orchestration across other cloud providers. Others are automating Amazon Elastic Map Reduce services such as Hadoop to automate the provisioning, uploading of data, execution of Hadoop Tasks, and distribution/export of results directly to the relevant business users.

It is an exciting time to be involved in technology.  I believe that there is a place and a need to pull together the silo'd applications, operating systems, clouds, big data providers and the internet of things.  Automic is leading the charge in disrupting this market and that's why I'm thrilled about joining today.
