Ingres and Satyam Announce Strategic Global Alliance

Satyam to Develop Its First Open Source Database Practice With Ingres

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. and HYDERABAD, India, Feb. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Ingres Corporation, the leading business open source company, and Satyam Computer Services, Ltd. , a leading global consulting and services provider, today announced a global strategic alliance to bring open source database solutions to a variety of industries, including retail and pharmaceutical, and to government entities. In addition, Ingres and Satyam will work together to introduce reliable Ingres solutions to the Indian market, where open source adoption has increased recently due to the success of Linux and a growing number of government mandates.

As part of the joint sales and marketing agreement, Satyam will build a new Ingres practice and train its sales and technical professionals on the open source databases. Ingres, in turn, will work with Satyam on database system integration projects around the world.

"Developing and deploying open source databases for enterprise applications is a growing trend, and we want establish a leadership position in providing these services in India, and worldwide," said Ram Mynampati, president of Satyam Computer Services Ltd. "This alliance will enable Satyam to become proficient in these critical capabilities. It is also important to both companies-it will increase Ingres's global presence and Satyam's enterprise open source expertise."

Satyam and Ingres will initially target retail and pharmaceutical companies and government entities because they tend to feature tight margins and budgets, which make lower-cost, open source options appealing. However, these organizations also require proven enterprise technology to deploy open source widely and achieve its full benefits.

"Having realized substantial return on investment with Linux, CIOs are looking for ways to deploy more open source software in their shops," said Roger Burkhardt, president and COO of Ingres Corporation. "Our tight partnership ensures that customers receive the enterprise-class support and services they've relied on from the closed source providers, but delivered with the benefits of the open source business model."

Customers interested in working with Ingres and Satyam can contact either Ingres at (877) 346-4737 or [email protected] or Satyam at [email protected].
