SCO, which claims it owns them, and will be more than happy to show the copyright people what it claims is the bill of sale, wants the Novell ones overturned. But SCO's not sure it can get the Copyright Office to move expeditiously, if at all. The agency may ultimately tell SCO to go see a judge, which it figures it'll be doing anyway when it sues an end user for copyright infringement. It's expected to sue an end user any day now, which will certainly get the juices flowing. Novell, which is in the process of buying SUSE and getting $50 million for it from IBM, registered copyrights on SVR2.0, SVR3.0, SVR3.0/386, SVR3.1, SVR3.2, SVR3.2/386, SVR4.0/386, SVR4.1ES, SVR4.1ES/386, SVR4.2/386, SVR4.2MP to try to frustrate SCO's plan to charge a Linux tax. SCO says it registered the same copyrights before Novell in moves dating back to, oh, last July. Stowell says Novell is "trying to take the bullet for IBM and look heroic and everything, but it's cannon fodder."
