Microsoft and SpikeSource Pledge to Work Together to Increase Interoperability of Open Source Technologies on the Windows Platfo

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., July 26 /PRNewswire/ -- SpikeSource, a provider of business-ready open source applications, today announced plans to work together with Microsoft Corp. to certify all of SpikeSource's SpikeIgnited solutions on the Microsoft Windows platform. SpikeSource delivers a range of open source applications including business intelligence, enterprise content management, collaboration, e-mail, CRM and Web content management.

"A significant number of enterprise customers with open source applications run those applications on Windows server today," said Bill Hilf, general manager of platform strategy at Microsoft Corp. "Today's successful companies are choosing the Microsoft platform. SpikeSource's decision provides its customers with more flexibility and increased platform interoperability and further highlights the wide spectrum of customers taking advantage of and deriving value from the Microsoft platform."

"As companies look for new ways to compete in the global economy they are deploying open source solutions that offer enterprise-class functionality on the Windows platform at a lower price point," said Kim Polese, chief executive officer of SpikeSource. "SpikeSource was founded to accelerate the mass market adoption of business-ready open source solutions and this announcement illustrates our commitment to offering users tested and supported applications that meet their needs, regardless of operating system they have deployed."

SpikeSource recently shipped a Windows-certified SpikeIgnited product to NEC, whose customers have been asking for open source solutions that are certified on both Linux and Windows, and began shipping today a Windows-certified Drupal SpikeIgnited solution. Beyond this, the company has plans to certify additional solutions on the Windows platform throughout the second half of 2007.

"NEC has been successfully offering our customers open source infrastructure and application software solutions based on a close partnership with SpikeSource," said Kenji Ogawa, General Manager of Software Business Planning at NEC Corp. "The news that Microsoft will work together with SpikeSource to certify their leading open source solutions on the Windows platform will be well received by our customers and will greatly expand the opportunity for NEC to provide open source solutions."

SpikeSource delivers a portfolio of business-ready software solutions that includes CRM, content management, e-mail, business intelligence and collaboration applications developed by leading open source companies and projects. To bring these solutions to market, the company has developed the SpikeIgnite Platform, a set of tools and services that help simplify and automate these otherwise labor-intensive and complex tasks. Not only does this ensure that the resulting solutions are easy to deploy and use with enterprise-grade quality and performance, but organizations using the SpikeIgnite Platform have already improved their business performance and lowered their overall total cost of ownership.
