The next phase of web video, whether that be prime time shows, social networking or user generated content will rely on quality to deliver full screen television like experiences. "The next twelve months will usher in high definition (HD) web video as a key requirement," says Bill Joll, president and CEO of On2 Technologies, and a member of the distinguished Speaker Faculty at the upcoming iTVCon - Internet Video Conference & Expo 2007 in San Francisco (12-13 November, 2007)."While most of the focus is on bandwidth requirements for HD video, the critical factor in its adoption is closer to home, the consumer’s home," Joll contends. "Most consumer PCs are ill equipped to deal with HD video’s processing power requirements," he adds.
Joll will talk about how On2’s video compression has made almost HD quality web video possible today with customers such as Adobe (Flash), Vividas and Move Networks, and how On2 is addressing the future of HD video on the web with its TrueMotion compression that simplifies HD playback on mass market PCs, and will be a critical factor in delivering HD to mobile and portable devices very soon.
Speaker Bio: Bill Joll is president and CEO of On2 Technologies, a developer of video compression technology. Prior to joining On2, he served as vice president of marketing, carrier solutions, at RealNetworks. He also spent 18 years at Nortel, where he served as president of marketing for Europe, general manager of two different carrier product lines, and head of product management in Asia and Latin America.
In 2000, Joll left Nortel to serve as CEO of two technology start-ups, Maple Optical and Threshold Networks. He holds a bachelors and masters degree in electrical engineering from the University of Manitoba and is a citizen of the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
