SCO has confirmed a story on ZDNet saying that it’s thinking of jacking up the price of its so-called Linux licenses to make it a lot more expensive for users who wait to see if SCO wins its suit against IBM.
Presumably SCO is contemplating the move because its SCOsource IP licensing unit is bringing in next to nothing in revenues and the 300-man company is dependent on its Unix operation for its livelihood.
As previously reported, SCO has said it will report that SCOsource did all of six figures in the company’s last quarter.
SCO spokesman Blake Stowell wouldn’t say how much SCO was thinking of raising prices or when, though he did hint that it could be in a month.
ZD suggests that SCO might abandon its annual licenses and just stick with its flat one-time fees.
