(November 28, 2007) - My Google News alert on Virtualization just crossed my Outlook shadows on my laptop screen. Here is a news release that attracted my attention, and I will explain why. The following is the first paragraph of the news:"1105 Media has launched the Virtualization Media Group (VMG), which will focus on virtualization technologies, products, news and solutions. VMG will include an industry event, a Web site, a newsletter and a magazine, Virtualization Review. VMG will focus on senior-level administration for large organizations. The event is scheduled for fall 2008, although no further details are available at this time."
So, the geniuses in Chatsworth, California, who picked up the remains of Fawcette Technical Publications from the bank in Virginia, and the remains of 101 Communications, another platform play that went seriously south, sat down in a room this afternoon and said "What is SYS-CON up to these days?"
The guy left over from Fawcette days and still employed said, "Well we used to follow their news announcements and announce the same products, but by the time we could get around to what needs to be done, we were usually one year behind SYS-CON. And then we went out of business pretty much."
So the guy who makes the decisions in the room, as in the FedEx commercial, said: "OK, we will announce a Virtualization Website and a Virtualization Conference!"
"VMG's Web site is currently under construction and should be online in the first quarter of 2008."
Very funny! :- )) If it takes you six months to construct a Website using an open source CMS, you have a long way to go my friends...
If the people who were sitting in that meeting today want to keep their jobs, they need to do much better than this joke :- )) And SYS-CON folks must be so amused with this announcement, they don't mind me promoting the news on their own Website.
Merry Christmas!

Note: In the meantime, the third international Virtualization Conference & Expo where the virtualization industry converges will take place in June in New York City.
