Microsoft and Novell have announced a push to convert
unsupported Linux users in the Chinese market to supported SUSE Linux
Enterprise.
The companies formed an alliance in 2006 to provide
interoperability between the Windows and Linux operating systems but this is
the first time they have targeted a specific country.
The collaboration in China will focus on two emerging
areas of interoperability: high-performance computing and virtualization. The
cross-platform virtualization offerings include Microsoft Windows Server 2008
with Hyper-V and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 with Xen technology.
Ya-Qin Zang, corporate vice president and chairman at
Microsoft China,
said: "We are very pleased with the initial response in the Chinese market
to our joint offerings for IP peace of mind and technology interoperability in
such areas as virtualization and high-performance computing."
