Wyse Announces 'Virtualize My Classroom' Solutions - Simple, Manageable Ways To Use Today's Technology to Improve Learning

Classroom-in-a-Box and Other Wyse Education Solutions use Virtualization and Cloud Computing to Save Teachers Time, Money and Energy

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Wyse Technology, the global leader in thin computing and client virtualization, today announced a new generation of solutions for the education environment. Wyse Technology's newest Education offerings include:

  • Wyse Classroom-in-a-Box: A bundled product offering based on the Wyse Zero Client solution below, simplifies the set up, maintenance and management of the IT infrastructure for school districts working within budget constraints, while improving overall performance. Classroom-in-a-Box complements Wyse's existing solutions for the education market:
  • Wyse Zero Client Computing Solution: Delivers uncompromised experience and performance, without the PC hassle. Wyse Zero clients work with *Wyse WSM software installed on an existing PC, a server, or on the new Wyse **WSM Appliance. Students use inexpensive Wyse Zero Clients in a Windows OS environment to run any standard Windows application, with full-performance multimedia and 3D graphics. Best of all, the solution does not expose the school to application licensing and technical issues created by existing PC-sharing approaches.
  • Wyse Thin Client Computing Solution: Uses small, silent and energy efficient thin clients with a server running client virtualization solutions such as Microsoft Terminal Services, Citrix XenApp, VMware View or Citrix XenDesktop. The Wyse Thin Client Computing Solution is its most affordable way to deliver more computers to students at a low total cost of acquisition and ownership.
  • Wyse Web Client Solution: With more and more software accessible via a browser, this new solution is an effective approach to deliver Cloud or web applications and uses the Internet, rather than a local server infrastructure. Deployable in minutes, this solution brings the convenience and affordability of Cloud computing without the costly maintenance of traditional desktops.

*Wyse WSM(TM) - Provisioning Software powers maintenance-free Zero Clients, delivering full distributed PC functionality with centralized management and control. WSM uses familiar Windows OSs and applications, runs rich applications like Google Earth, and ensures that students stay focused, unable to make unwanted changes to the environment. With the click of a mouse, a teacher can reset an entire classroom of desks to a fresh, known state, ready for learning.

**The New Wyse WSM Appliance(TM), which delivers rich experience of XP Pro, Vista or Windows 7 for faculty and students. This easy-to-use appliance includes HW, OS and WSM Provisioning Software* in one unit. The WSM Appliance can power up to 25 Zero Client student workstations.

The Charter School of Morgan Hill in Morgan Hill, CA recently implemented Classroom-in-a-Box into its learning environments to reduce the amount of time teachers were spending on PC-related technical issues. As a result of the deployment, the teachers are spending significantly less time on IT tasks and are able to leverage the technology to enhance learning for their students.

"With the Classroom-in-a-Box, teachers are now spending time teaching, instead of wasting time with IT tasks. They love how easy it is to use for themselves and the students," said Paige Cisewski, Principal at Charter School of Morgan Hill. The teachers use the WSM solution to control the desktop environment. We enjoy being able to schedule content to be loaded on the machines at any given time so as classes come and go, the teachers "provision" the correct content for the specific class being taught."

"Wyse recognizes the importance of technology in the classroom and is proud to deliver solutions that solve the different needs, resources, IT infrastructure and pain points educators face," said Maryam Alexandrian, Senior VP of Worldwide Sales and Channels at Wyse. "We leverage today's virtualization and cloud computing concepts to deliver a low cost, high performance solution with the flexibility and control teachers need, with the experience that keeps students engaged."

Classroom-in-a-Box includes a WSM Appliance and three Zero Clients for $1,999. Additional clients can be added at any time for $329/device.
