Black Duck & Microsoft Cut Deal

Microsoft to feed projects from CodePlex project hosting site to Black Duck’s KnowledgeBase repository

Microsoft is going to feed projects from its CodePlex open source project hosting site automatically into Black Duck's open source KnowledgeBase repository.

Black Duck's software keeps track of the use of open source components in mixed-source development projects.

The CodePlex projects will also be searchable through Black Duck's Koders.com search engine.

Black Duck's founder is ex-Microsoft and CodePlex is supposed to be one of the fastest-growing open source hosting sites. It currently hosts 9,000 projects and adds about 100 new projects a week, many of which are .NET-based.

The Black Duck KnowledgeBase currently represents upwards of 200,000 open source projects and is used to spot hidden license obligations, security vulnerabilities, unsupported open source and version proliferation.
