Alvecon Runs Insurance Broker Applications Using Ceedo Desktop Virtualization and Mobility Office
Alvecon Chooses Ceedo Technology to Virtualize the Insurance Brokerage Business
Mar. 3, 2008 12:45 PM
Alvecon runs insurance broker applications using Ceedo
desktop virtualization and Mobility Office. Alvecon selected and deployed Ceedo
and Mobility Office as a standard system for its brokers. Using it, brokers get
all of their professional and office applications on a USB device, achieving
savings for Alvecon in deployment and management of applications and allowing
enhanced productivity to its brokers.
Alvecon distributed professional applications to brokers on
CDs from the insurers. This was difficult to manage and caused uptime problems.
Additionally, due to incompatibility of some insurer applications, collisions
between applications on the PCs caused huge support problems
The Ceedo solution improved the process by offering a
virtual mobile work environment on USB drives with a build-in deployment
system. The initial workspace of applications was created by Mobility Office on
encrypted USB drives. The USB drives were deployed to insurance brokers in the
field which were able to plug them into their PCs and start using the
applications. Using the Ceedo management system Mobility Office is able to
support the systems in the field by installing new applications to the USB
drives as well as perform incremental updates to the installed applications and
the client environment.
"The Ceedo and Mobility Office solution was chosen to
dramatically shorten the deployment time and enhance our partner recruitment
and our support cycles." said Mr. Joachim Kolodzie, authorized
representative and project manager at Alvecon in Frankfurt.
"The use of the Ceedo virtualization engine provided a unique portable
plug and play solution for our insurer's applications. It allowed running them
on multiple operating systems, and gave us the ability to quickly deploy
applications. A nice additional benefit is recovery - in the past if a laptop
malfunctioned, reinstalling the work environment took days. With the Ceedo
solution, recovery is as simple and fast as plugging the USB drive into a new
PC."
The deployed work environments include more than 50 software
systems of the premium partners of Alvecon installed on the new Alvecon Business Center.
It also contains the in-house analytical and advisory tool eVa as well as
standard office applications. A particular benefit was to include the proposal
software systems of insurers and product partners. "We wanted to ensure
that our brokers are no longer bound by installation and updating of insurance
proposal software. Therefore it was necessary to include the software in the
distribution system from Mobility-Office and Ceedo. This was a great success.
The sole savings just from the update process of the applications installed on
the Alvecon Business Center
is hours per month for every end user, "said Mr. Kolodzie.
Another key advantage is in the rollout process. In the
past, the brokers had to do the initial installation of the applications on
their own or for each of their PCs by the IT department of Alvecon. Mr. Jürgen
Keller director of IT, "Now we give the brokers a USB Drive, all programs,
Internet browser, portal access, e mail, etc. all preinstalled, preconfigured
and ready to run. The broker only has to plug the drive into his PC. Moreover,
an added advantage of the virtual environment was that the incompatibilities
between the various applications no longer occur."
