SqlXtract - PowerBuilder Version 9 Through 11.5.1

This utility was developed with the anticipation that many PowerBuilder sites use Sybase’s DataWindow

PBDJ Blog Post

Software Tool & Die Inc. is pleased to announce that it has uploaded newer versions of its SQLExtract Utility to STD's SourceForge open source server.

The new versions are for PowerBuilder 11.2, and 11.5.1. STD has also uploaded versions of SQLXtract for PB 9.0.3 and 10.2.1 to SourceForge as well that were previously housed on Sybase's CodeXchange system.

The SQLXtract utility can be downloaded from STD's development area on SourceForge (click here).

This utility was developed with the anticipation that many PowerBuilder sites use Sybase’s DataWindow technology to gain access to various DataBase Management Systems. The DataWindow however, stores its SQL in a non-DBMS vendor specific format (known as a PBSelect to developers). This does not allow various SQL database analysis products access to the various DW SQL statements for processing.

It is the design of this utility to provide a bridge between the PowerBuilder environment and products like SQL Optimiser or Quest-Central SQL tuning environments by reverse engineering the proprietary SQL out of the DataWindow object and into a common text file in ANSI format that can be easily analyzed by data analysts or various SQL bases products.

The latest SQLExtract release 11.5.1 - Build 4011 has the following new / enhanced features:

  • Conversion to PB 11.5.1 - build 4011.
  • Tested with SA 11, SS2008, O10/O11g and ASE 15.3 DBMS.
  • Converted MENU objects to new style
  • Added menu animation
  • Added toolbar animation
  • Cleaned-up toolbar icons.
  • Added support for Oracle 11g
  • Added support for SQLServer SNC (SQLServer Native Client - SS2005 and SS2008)
  • Removed support for Oracle 8i

The previous version of SQLExtract release 11.2 - Build 8407 has the following new / enhanced features:

  • Conversion to PB 11.2.
  • Tested with SA 10, SS2005 and ASE 15.0 DBMS.

Note: SqlXtract for PB 9.0.3 can read any DW version and PBL directly back to release 1.0. These versions are ANSI. SqlXtract version 11.5.1 can read DW and PBL's back to PB 10.0. These versions are Unicode.

Enjoy!

IoT & Smart Cities Stories
While the focus and objectives of IoT initiatives are many and diverse, they all share a few common attributes, and one of those is the network. Commonly, that network includes the Internet, over which there isn't any real control for performance and availability. Or is there? The current state of the art for Big Data analytics, as applied to network telemetry, offers new opportunities for improving and assuring operational integrity. The Internet of Things is clearly many things: data collection and analytics, wearables, Smart Grids and Smart Cities, the Industrial Internet, and more. Cool platforms like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Intel's Galileo and Edison, and a diverse world of sensors are making the IoT a great toy box for developers in all these areas. The Jevons Paradox suggests that when technological advances increase efficiency of a resource, it results in an overall increase in consumption. Writing on the increased use of coal as a result of technological improvements, 19th-century economist William Stanley Jevons found that these improvements led to the development of new ways to utilize coal. In his session at 19th Cloud Expo, Mark Thiele, Chief Strategy Officer for Apcera, compared the Jevons Paradox to modern-day enterprise IT, examin...
